Montessori

Our Montessori Education

The Montessori Method was developed by Dr. Maria Montessori to meet each child’s unique physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development in a nurturing, non-competitive environment. Practical Life, Sensorial, Phonics, Mathematics, and Culture lessons are the five primary learning areas in the Montessori Education.

Practical Life

Practical life skills that help develop independence, coordination, concentration, self-control, self-awareness, and confidence include the following:
  • Care of Self (brushing teeth, bathing, dressing),
  • Care of the Environment (cleaning, gardening, caring for outdoor plants),
  • Grace and Courtesy (greetings, manners, social interactions),
  • Control of Movement (refining movements, keeping calm, moving quietly).

Sensorial

Sensorial activities allow each child to refine and expand their senses in the following areas:
  • Sight (visual),
  • Touch (tactile),
  • Smell (olfactory),
  • Taste (gustatory)
  • Sound (auditory)
  • Stereognosis (kinaesthetic)

Phonics

Phonics is a reading method that helps children become familiar with the sounds that individual letters make by fostering an understanding of the ways in which these sounds are used individually, in groups, and in whole words.

Mathematics

Using hands-on methods, Mathematics is taught to help children progress at their own pace. These methods include manipulating beads and stamps, using strip boards, playing with number tiles and number boards, using physical shapes to learn fractions, and memorisation of essential Math facts.

Culture

Culture lessons introduce students to various people and their diverse cultures. We develop materials and activities designed by Montessori method to educate our students about world cultures through the following areas:
  • Geography (continents, landforms, earth layers, solar system),
  • Zoology (classification, physiology of animals),
  • Botany (ecology, classification, physiology of plants),
  • History (timelines, using a calendar),
  • Science.

Other Programmes

  • Music Class

Through the wonders of piano, vocal, violin, guitar, ukulele, flute, and more, Knowledge Tree’s Music Class by Gloria Music is a comprehensive yet enjoyable music class that includes vocal training and instrument practise in early childhood music. Inspiring young musicians, the music class allows children to express their passion for music and enjoyment of making music.

  • Speech & Drama Class

The Pyjama Drama programme (a blend of drama, play, music, and movement) nurtures the individuality and creativity of children. The teachers at Pyjama Drama use their drama skills to create imaginary worlds for the children to explore together. They re-enact events, interact with a diverse cast of characters, and help your child develop a sense of belonging in a safe and supportive classroom environment.

  • Mindfulness

Mindful activities will help children develop lifelong skills that will reduce their anxiety and stress, improve their focus, help boost their happiness, and enhance their ability to cope when life becomes too overwhelming. At Knowledge Tree, our teachers engage in a variety of mindful activities, such as breathing and movement, to calm the children and prepare them for the next learning activity.
